Riley Wraps up Winter

2023 Club Winter All-Rounder

The last of the winter shoots at Meary Veg was the Winter All Round which was sponsored by the club its self. A healthy 22 competitors took to the stands in dry, sunny, cool conditions.

English skeet and DTL were shot simultaneously on the right and left had ranges and the leader after these two disciplines was Michael Cross on 133 points mainly down to a 25 straight in English skeet, in second place on 131 was John Moore with Mark Riley in third place on 129, Mark hitting a perfect straight in DTL. The leading B class shooter was Will Rand on 127 with Mike Walker second on 123. The leading C class shooter was Jack Clague with 114 points with Mark Sweetman second on 108.

Before the final discipline was shot the shoot offs for the English Skeet league took place with John Moore and Paul Mihailovits were  tying for first place and the result was a win for John Moore. We also had a three way tie for second place in C class between Roman Sammer, Chris Workman and Mark Hepworth and the person taking second place was Chris Workman with Mark Hepworth in third place.

In the Pro Sporting which was shot in reverse order we had Jack Clague taking first place in C class with 168 points with Mark Sweetman in second place on 153 and Roman Sammer in third place on 147. In B class Brian Faragher was third on 168 with Will Rand taking second place on 185 and winning B class with 186 was Mike Walker. Things got even tighter in A class with Paul Mihailovits taking third place with 190 points, in second place with 193 points was Michael Cross but one point ahead on 194 in first place in A was Peter Kelly but if he would of hit his very last target he would of beat Mark Riley who was the winner with 195 points – well done Mark.

Winter Skeet Round Four

The fourth and final round of the Utopia Hair Salon Winter Series English Skeet League was held at Meary Veg Santon with 15 competitors taking part in cold, blustery and hazy conditions.

The joint leaders after the first round were Paul Mihailovits and John Moore on 24 points with C class shooters Mark Hepworth and junior Zac Bellhouse in joint third place on 23 followed by Dave Corlett and Rob Marshall on 22.

After a short break the second round got under way with the conditions getting even more windy making the targets duck and dive. This didn’t seem to bother James Simpson as he recorded the only straight on the day to finish in joint first place overall and first in A class with Paul Mihailovits on 46 points, third place in A class went to John Moore on 44. Junior Zac Bellhouse was third overall with 45 points which also took C class. We had a three way tie for second place in C class between Mark Hepworth, Rob Marshall and Rob Corlett on 39 points. Mike Walker was first in B class with 40 points with Steven Rand second on 30 points.

The overall league positions have yet to be decided as we have ties in A and C class’s which will be resolved next week.

Sporting Corlett Shines

2023 Winter Pro Sporting League, Round 4

The fourth and final round of the Winter Series Pro Sporting League kindly sponsored by Brian Faragher was held at Meary Veg Santon with 19 competitors taking to the stands in dry, dull but clam conditions.

The leader after the first layout which was shot in a complete new location on the range was B class shooter Rob Corlett with 23 points in second place overall was A class shooter Will Rand on 22 with Stan Cross in third place on 21 with George Davies, Paul Mihailovits, Peter Kelly all A class and B class Mark Barnett next on 20. The leading C class shooter at this stage was Mark Sweetman on 19.

After the second layout was shot, again from a complete new location, we had Nicky Barnett finishing in third place in C class on 28 points with Brian Kelly taking second place with 30 points but winning C class by a country mile was Mark Barnett with 39 points. Jack Clague and junior David Cowin finished in equal third place in B class on 36 points with Mark Barnett taking second place on 39 but winning B class and also highgun on the day was Rob Corlett with 42 points. In A class we had a tie for third place between Will Rand and Peter Kelly on 39, we also had a tie for first place between George Davies and Stan Cross on 40 points. We also had Liam Kirkpatrick taking part in his first Pro Sporting event and finished with a creditable score of 36.

Riley and Craine top Winter League

Winter DTL Round Four

The fourth and final round of the CU PLAS CALLOW Winter series DTL league was held at Meary Veg Santon with 19 competitors taking part in near ideal conditions.

The leader after the first round was A class shooter Steven Craine with a perfect 25/75 round, in second place also with a straight but with two second barrel kills was Mark Riley on 73 points with Phil Ward and junior Joe Faragher along with B class shooter Rob Corlett in equal third place on 72. The leading C class shooter at this stage was Mark Sweetman with 23/68 with Will Rand in second place on 22/65 followed by Brian Kelly in third place on 20/65.

At the end of the second round we had Will Rand in third place in C class on 114 with Brian Kelly taking second place on 116 but winning C class with a very good score of 130 was Mark Sweetman. In B Class we had Stan Cross in third place on 129 then we had the battle of the Corlett’s for first and second and young Rob beat the old man by two points to take B class with 139 with his Dad David in second place on 137. In A class Phil Ward was third place on 142 points but we had a tie for first place between Steven Craine and Mark Riley on 144.

Skeet Victory for Moore

Winter Skeet, Round Three

The third round of the Utopia Hair Salon Winter Series English Skeet league was held at Meary Veg Santon with 20 competitors taking part in dull cold and windy conditions.

The joint leaders after the first round were John Moore and Dave Corlett who both shot straights, in equal third place on 24 were Rachael Bowen Matthews and Peter Kelly followed by Jeff Corkill on 23. The leading B class shooters were Steven Rand and Brian Faragher on 22 with George Davies in third place on 20. The leading C class shooters were Roman Sammer and junior Zac Bellhouse on 22 with Chris Workman in third place on 21.

After a short break the second round got under way in the same weather conditions and at the end of the third round we had a four way tie for third place in C class between Mark Hepworth, Brian Kelly, Dave Morgan and Chris Workman all on 39. In second place in C on 41 was Roman Sammer but taking C class with 44 points was Zac Bellhouse. We also had a new shooter taking part in his first skeet shoot in Liam Kirkpatrick who finished with 37 points – well done Liam! Along with another shooter making a welcome return was James Simpson who scored 46 and also hitting a straight in his second round.

In B class George Davies was third on 41 with Steven Rand taking second place on 42 but winning B class with 43 points was Brain Faragher. In A class we had a three way tie for second place between Rachael Bowen Matthews, Dave Corlett and Peter Kelly on 46 points but taking the top spot with 48 points was the oldest man in the field, John Moore – well done John.
