Winter Skeet, Round Three

The third round of the Utopia Hair Salon Winter Series English Skeet league was held at Meary Veg Santon with 20 competitors taking part in dull cold and windy conditions.

The joint leaders after the first round were John Moore and Dave Corlett who both shot straights, in equal third place on 24 were Rachael Bowen Matthews and Peter Kelly followed by Jeff Corkill on 23. The leading B class shooters were Steven Rand and Brian Faragher on 22 with George Davies in third place on 20. The leading C class shooters were Roman Sammer and junior Zac Bellhouse on 22 with Chris Workman in third place on 21.

After a short break the second round got under way in the same weather conditions and at the end of the third round we had a four way tie for third place in C class between Mark Hepworth, Brian Kelly, Dave Morgan and Chris Workman all on 39. In second place in C on 41 was Roman Sammer but taking C class with 44 points was Zac Bellhouse. We also had a new shooter taking part in his first skeet shoot in Liam Kirkpatrick who finished with 37 points – well done Liam! Along with another shooter making a welcome return was James Simpson who scored 46 and also hitting a straight in his second round.

In B class George Davies was third on 41 with Steven Rand taking second place on 42 but winning B class with 43 points was Brain Faragher. In A class we had a three way tie for second place between Rachael Bowen Matthews, Dave Corlett and Peter Kelly on 46 points but taking the top spot with 48 points was the oldest man in the field, John Moore – well done John.

2023 Winter Pro Sporting League, Round 3

The third round of the Winter Series Pro Sporting league kindly sponsored by Will Rand was held at Meary Veg Santon with 19 competitors taking part in dull, overcast conditions.

The leader after the first round of targets shot on the left hand range under the shelter was C class shooter Mark Sweetman with a fine round of 22 in equal second place on 21 were father and son Dave and Rob Corlett along with John Moore and David Clague who were followed by junior David Cowin, Jack Clague, Stan Cross and George Davies on 20.

The right hand layout with totally different targets but with same degree of difficulty again shot under another of the new shelters. In Class junior Zac Bellhouse finished in third place on 33 points, in second place on 38 with 22 in his second round was Brian Kelly but taking C class with 41 points was Mark Sweetman. In B class we had a tie for third place between Rob Corlett and Mark Barnett on 39, in second place on 40 with his trusty side by side was Jack Clague but taking B class with 42 points was David Cowin.

In A class third place went to Stan Cross on 39 with Paul Mihailovits taking second place on 40 but winning A class with a fine score of 46 and a perfect score of 25 in his second round was Dave Corlett.

Winter DTL Round Three

The third round of the Cu Plas Callow Winter Series DTL League was held at Meary Veg, Santon, with 13 competitors taking part in near ideal conditions.

The leader after the first round was A class shooter Mark Riley with a 25/73 straight, in second place also with a straight was B class Rob Corlett with 25/72, in third place on 23/68 was A class Mike Walker followed by A class Peter Lowe on 23/67. Leading C class with 22/66 was Mark Sweetman with Brian Kelly in second place with 20/59. We also had a new shooter Mike Thomson taking part in his first DTL competition which was good to see.

After a short break the second round got under way and in C class Brian Kelly finished in second place on 41/120 but winning C class with 43/127 was Mark Sweetman. Dave Corlett finished in third place in B class on 44/129 with George Davies taking second place on 47/132 but winning B class hands down was Rob Corlett who hit 49 for 143 points which was also equal highgun on the day. Peter Lowe was third in A class on 47/135 with Mike Walker piping him for second place by one point on 136 but also equal highgun and winning A class was Mark Riley on 49/143.

Second Skeet Close Contest

Winter Skeet, Round Two

The second round of the Utopia Hair Salon Winter Series English Skeet League was held at Meary Veg Santon in cool, windy but dry conditions.

We had a four way tie for first place after the first round between Jeff Corkill, Dave Corlett, John Moore and Paul Mihailovits on 23, next on 22 were Peter Kelly and B class shooter Brian Faragher followed by two juniors; A class Joe Faragher and C class Zac Bellhouse.

At the beginning of the second round the wind dropped slightly but the sun came out making to clays hard to pick up from the low house. At the end of the second round Brian Kelly and Roman Sammer were in equal second place in C class on 33 but the runaway winner of C class was Zac Bellhouse with 42 points.

It was good to see Stephen Rand back on the range who finished in third place in B class on 35, in second place on 40 was junior David Cowin but the winner of B class with 45 points was Brian Faragher. We also had a tie for second place in A class between Dave Corlett and Paul Mihailovits on 46 points but just pipping them by one point with a score of 47 was Jeff Corkill.

Riley Bags Post-Christmas Cup

2022 Club Boxing Day Shoot

The IOM Clay Pigeon Shooting Club’s annual Christmas Shoot and kindly sponsored once again by Top Spec Fencing was held at Meary Veg Santon in dull and very windy conditions but the rain stopped once shooting commenced.

The leader after the first round was C class shooter Michael Cross on 66 points with Steven Craine in second place on 63 points followed by Mark Riley, Mike Walker, Stan Skinner and C class shooter Brian Kelly in equal third  place on 60 points.

While the main shooters had a break the non-members took to the stands competing for the Phil Yewdell cup, and the winner was Chris McCabe with 48 points with junior Tom Moore in second place on 39 followed by Malcolm Darcy in third place on 36. We then had another junior in Lucy Faragher in fourth place on 33 with Ash Lewis and junior Percy Hampton next on 27 followed by Julie Faragher and Sarah Cubbon on 18 and in ninth place on 9 points was Sarah Faragher.

The second round of the main event got under way with the wind even stronger making the targets duck and dive more. In C class Wayne Barsby finished in fourth place on 69 with Mark Hepworth taking third place on 81, in second place on 117 was Brian Kelly but taking C class with 123 points was Michael Cross.

In B class Calum Craine was fifth on 96 with Giulio Fabrizio forth on 99, in third place on 102 was Mark Barnett, Stan Cross took second place on 108 but top of the B class with 114 points was Rob Corlett. In A Class we had a three way tie for fourth place with Alan Wade, John Moore and Stan Skinner all scoring 108 points, in third place on 111 was junior Arran Wade, we also had a tie for first place in A class between Steven Craine and Mike Walker on 123 but the Highgun on the day was Mark Riley with 129 points – well done Mark!

In the handicap section the winner was Brian Kelly with a total of 169 points in second place on 166 was Michael Cross with Steven Craine in third place on 133.
