Bradley crowned Manx Champion

Olympic Skeet Manx Championship

The IOM Olympic Skeet Championship was held at Meary Veg, Santon, kindly sponsored by Sadler Agricultural Supplies.

The leader after the first round was James Bradley with 23 points with John Moore and David Clague in equal second place on 20. Bradley was still in the lead after round two with 44 points with Clague now second on his own on 38 with Moore third on 35.

It was status quo after round three with Bradley stretching his lead with 68 points to Clague’s 55 and Moore’s 53. After the fourth and final round Moore finished in third place on 71 with Clague taking second place on 79 but top of the tree with 89 points was James Bradley which made it a double success for him as he also won the selection shoot the previous day with 84 points.

Next week is the fourth round of the Suntera Global Sporting League in the morning which has the Ted Gohl Highgun Trophy and the Brian Faragher Handicap cup up for grabs, with the fourth round of the Dave and Pam Corlett Pro Sporting League in the afternoon which has the Dave and Pam Corlett Highgun cup and the Meary Veg handicap cup up for grabs.

Hospice 2022 Chairman’s Report

Successful 12th Annual Charity Event

The annual Hospice Charity Shoot was once again hosted by The IOM Clay Pigeon Shooting Club at Meary Veg, Santon, with a full complement of 72  competitors taking part in dry, sunny but windy conditions.

The competitors shot in squads of six, with the first squad going out at 9am and the last squad starting at 2-30pm. Once all the squads had finished and the scores had been collated we had a tie for the Voirrey Kelly team cup between Top Spec Fencing and Hospice Allsorts both on 187 points so count back was required to find the gold medal winners who were Top Spec Fencing with team members Stan Cross, Michael Cross, Will Rand and Neil Parsons with a combined score of 187+42 to silver medal winners Hospice Allsorts 187+37.8 with team members Vanessa Smith, Chris Smith, Sarah Cubbon and Rob Watterson. Taking the bronze medals were team Hot Shot Glovers with 185 points with team members Jacob Glover, Logan Glover, Mark Riley and Maya Kewley.

In the individual section Neil Parsons was Highgun on 48 who was also the senior gold medallist with with Will Rand second on 46+10 and Mark Riley third on 46+8. Paul Mihailovits was first in the vets on 47 with Dave Corlett second on 44 and Alan wright third on 43. The first lady was Allana Wade on 40 with Rachael Bowen Matthews second on 35 and Shannon Roberts third on 26. The first junior was Joe Faragher on 39 with Zac Bellhouse second on 38 and Tom Bowman third on 32.

In the novice section David Collister took gold on 36 with James Murphy taking silver on 32 and Scott Glover taking bronze on 31. The handicap gold medallist was Tom Moore with 48+10.5, with Rob Watterson taking silver with 48+9.4. We had a 9 way tie for the bronze medal but Brian Kelly had the best count back score on 47+2.6 to take bronze.

The medals were presented by Vanessa Smith and Ann Mills of Hospice at the end of the day when it was announced that the club had raised over £2,500.00 for Hospice IOM which makes nearly thirty thousand pounds being raised over the last twelve years.

Mihailovits Midsummer Mastery

English Skeet Round Four

The fourth round of the Colin Bowen Memorial English Skeet league was held at Meary Veg Santon in windy but dry conditions which also had the Wilf Cannell Handicap cup up for grabs.

The leader after the first round was Paul Mihailovits with 24 points in second place on 23 was trap shooter Peter Kelly and in equal third place were Dave Corlett, Rachael Bowen Matthews and leading C class shooter Brian Kelly on 22. The leading B class shooter at this stage was Mike Walker on 21. After the second round Rob Marshall was the winner of C class with 40 points with junior  Zac Bellhouse taking second place with 38 points beating his granddad Dave Morgan by one, who finished in equal third place with Brian Kelly on 37 points.

In B Class Madeleine Simpson was in third place on 39 points with Peter Fabrizio taking second place on 40 but taking B class with 41 points was Mike Walker. In A Class we had a tie for second place between Dave Corlett and Peter Kelly with 46 points but winning with 47 points was Paul Mihailovits.

In the battle for the Wilf Cannell Handicap cup we had a tie for first place between Rob Marshall and Mike Walker who both finished on 53 points, so a shoot off was required to find a winner, and the winner was Mike with a combined total of 29 points to Rob’s 22.5.

Barnett Bags Ballaneven Cup

Annual Side-by-Side Championship

The annual Ballaneven Side-by-Side Championship was held at Meary Veg, Santon, on Wednesday 15th June. Eighteen competitors took part in ideal conditions, including two non-members and one club member with a non-conforming gun, leaving fifteen individuals competing for prizes across five stands.

Visiting shooter Tony Grainger was the only competitor to clear stand 1 with a perfect 10, hotly pursued by Stevie Craine, Micheal Cross, Stan Skinner and Dave Corlett on 9 points. Corlett’s patience was tested as several shots refused to go off due to a sticky pin, a common gremlin found in many classic shotguns. Craine scored another 9 on stand 2 and was joined at the top by Peter Kelly, followed on 8 by Jackie Clague and sponsor John Kneen.

Micheal Cross found his form on stand 3 with a perfect 10, as did Mark Barnett and reigning champion Richard Kneen. The same trio landed another set of perfect 10s on stand 4, as did juniors Calum Craine and Arran Wade, Peter Kelly, Rob Corlett, and Stan Skinner. Barnett, Kelly, and Corlett also cleared stand 5 with full marks, joined by Alan Wade with a perfect 10.

After fifty targets of fierce but good natured competition, class C was dominated by sponsors Richard and John Kneen with 41 and 29 points respectively, while class B consisted of Rob Corlett with 36, Stan Cross with 38, and Peter Kelly on 39 points. Alan Wade and Dave Corlett tied for third place in class A with 38 points each, led by Micheal Cross on 41 and Stevie Craine on 42.

Meanwhile with 43 points the Ballaneven Cup goes to Mark Barnett, who would like to express his gratitude to previous champion Richard Kneen for the loan of his gun today.

Down the Line

The fourth round of the Tower Insurance DTL League was held at Meary Veg, Santon, with 17 competitors taking part in dry sunny but windy conditions.

The leader after the first round was newcomer and B class shooter Calum Craine hitting 24 targets for 72 points, in second place on 70 was Mike Walker with Mark Riley and John Moore in equal third place on 69. The leading C class shooter was Rob Marshall with 68 points.

In the second round round scoring was not any easier with the wind now gusting making the targets duck and dive. Brian Kelly in C class finished in third place with 92 points, taking second place in C was lady shooter Allana Wade with 115 points but winning C class with 127 points was Rob Marshall. George Davies finished in third place in B class with 134 points, second in B went to Rob Corlett with 136 points but the winner of B Class and equal High Gun was Calum Craine on 140 points.

We had a three way tie for third place in A class between Brian Faragher, Peter Kelly and last weeks IOM DTL Champion Alan Wade all with 137 points, in second place on 139 was Mike Walker but taking A class with 140 and equalling Calum Craine’s score was Dad Steven who hit the only 25 straight of the day for 140 points, so morally took High Gun on count back.

In the afternoon the fourth round of the Sadler Agricultural Supplies ABT League was held again in windy conditions.

Mark Riley lead the way after the first round only dropping one target for a 24, in second place on 22 were Alan Wade and Mike Walker with Steven and Calum Craine next on 21.

After the second round Steven Craine and Mike Walker finished in equal third place on 43 with Alan wade taking second place on 45 but storming first place was Mark Riley who hit all 25 targets including a lucky second barrel on his last target for 49 points.
