Boxing Day Shoot

The IOM Clay Pigeon Shooting Club held their annual Christmas shoot kindly sponsored by Top Spec Fencing at Meary Veg Santon with 34 competitors taking part in all categories in cold, wet but at times sunny conditions.

The leader of the main event at the half way stage was Steven Craine with a well shot 24, in equal second place were B class shooter Jack Clague and C class shooter Ted Kermeen on 22, followed by Mike Walker in fourth place on 21 and making up the top six were Arran Wade and Rob Corlett on 20. In the unclassified section the leaders were Michael Cross and Calum Craine on 18.

After a short break the second round got under way and in the unclassified section Michael Cross repeated his first round score on 18 to win the section, in second place on 33 was Mark Hepworth, but we had a five way tie for third place so count back was used which saw Andre Visjhov take third place with Zac Bellhouse in fourth place, Giulio Fabrizio was fifth, Stan Skinner sixth and Calum Craine seventh.

In Class C Mike Whitehead finished in third place on 34 with Will Rand taking second place on 36 but winning C class with 38 hits was Ted Kermeen. Brian Faragher was third in B class on 39 with Dave Corlett taking second place with 43 kills but winning B class with 44 kills was Jack Clague. In A class junior Arran Wade was third on count back from Rob Corlett in second place, both scoring 42 kills each but winning A Class with 43 kills was first round leader Steven Craine  but high gun on the day was Mike Walker who showed every body how to do it by hitting a straight in his second round to win the John Moore Highgun cup with 46 kills.

In the handicap section for the George Costain Handicap cup the winner was Mike Whitehead with 167 points. The last of the trophies to be won was the best non members cup or better know as the ‘Archie Cup’ and the winner was Cesar Kermode who received a years free membership to the club.

Pre-Christmas Shoot

The IOM Clay Pigeon shooting Club held their annual pre Christmas shoot at Meary Veg Santon with 21 competitors taking part in very windy and wet conditions.

The event was held over three disciplines of twenty targets in each discipline. Skeet Doubles was shot first and we had joint leaders in Calum Craine and Brian Faragher with 18 points followed by Stan Cross, Jeff Corkill and Dave Corlett on 17. The next discipline was Double Rise and Brian Faragher was in the lead on his own with 32 points with Rob Corlett now in second place on 31 followed by Calum Craine, Stan Cross, Mike Walker and junior Joe Faragher on 28. The leading C class shooter at this stage was Brian Kelly on 23.

The final discipline was Pro Sporting and in C Class we had a sudden death tie break for second place between Harvey Stembridge and Andre Visjhov, with Andre taking second place and Harvey third place but the winner of C class with 35 points was Brian Kelly. In B class Stan Cross finished in third place on 41 points with Calum Craine taking second place with 43 points but winning B Class with 44 points was Brian Faragher. John Moore finished in third place in A class with 39 points but we had to have another sudden death shoot off for first and second place’s between Mike Walker and Peter Kelly who both scored 41 points and the winner of the shoot off was Mike Walker. The highgun on the day went to Rob Corlett with a very well shot 49, well done Rob.

A team event was also held and the winners were Rob Corlett and Mike Walker with 90 points with Joe Faragher and Jeff Corkill second with 78 points.

Corkill & Moore Master the Wind

English Skeet Winter League, Round 2

The second round of the Utopia Hair Salon Winter Series English Skeet league was held at Meary Veg Santon in extremely windy but dry conditions.

The leader after the first round was Jeff Corkill on 23 closely followed by Paul Mihailovits on 22 in second place with John Moore, Roman Sammer, Irene Stockil and junior Zac Bellhouse all tying for third place with 20 points.

After a short break with the wind even stronger now, the second round got under way. Finishing in third place in C class was Ted Kermeen with 33 points but we had a tie for first place with Irene Stockil and Brian Kelly both scoring 35. Mark Hepworth finished in third place in B class with 37 points with Peter Kelly taking second place on 39 but winning B class with 40 points was junior Zac Bellhouse. Paul Mihailovits finished in third place in A class on 42 points but we had a tie for first place between Jeff Corkill and John Moore on 43 points.

Winter 2023 Pro Sporting – Round Two

The second round of the Winter Series Pro Sporting league was held at Meary Veg Santon with 20 competitors taking part in dull, wet and windy conditions but the good thing was it was shot under the shelters.

Once both layouts had been shot by all competitors we had the following results. In C class Dave Clague finished in third place with 29 points with Harvey Stembridge taking second place with 32 points but taking C class with 36 points was Mark Hepworth.

In B class Mark Sweetman was in third place with 40 points with Stan Cross taking second place with 41 points but piping him by one point for first place was Liam Kirkpatrick with 42 points. John Moore was third in A class with 41 points with Dave Corlett taking second place on 43 but taking the highgun on the day and first in A class was Paul Mihailovits. Well done Paul. A big thank you to the lads who set up the range today in very wet and windy conditions.

Winter DTL League – Round 2

The second round of the Cu Plas Callow Winter Series DTL league was held at Meary Veg Santon with 13 competitors taking part in extremely cold but calm 
conditions.

The leader after the first round was junior Arran Wade who missed only one  target scoring 24/72 points, in second place on 23/68 was Phil Ward with Ted  Kermeen in third place on 23/66, in fourth place was Peter Lowe 21/62 with  Brian Faragher in fifth place on 21/60 and making up the top six were Mike  Walker 21/59 and Steven Craine 20/59.

After a short break the second round got under way and at the end we had the following results. In third place in C class went to Rob Marshall on 33/95 with Mike Whitehead taking second place with 40/117 but taking C class by a  country mile was Ted Kermeen with 44/127. In B class Brian Faragher was third on 41/113 with Jack Clague taking second  place on 40/115 and in first place was John Moore with 41/116. Mike walker was third in A class on 44/129, in second place on 46/134 was first round leader Arran Wade but top of the class on 46/137 was Phil Ward.
