The fourth and final round of the Cu Plas Callow Winter Series DTL league was held at Meary Veg Santon in very windy and dull conditions.
The leader after the first round was left hander Steven Craine with a 25/71 straight, in second place on 23/63 was Peter Lowe with B class shooter John Moore in third place with 21/61 followed by Phil Ward 19/56 in fourth place with Calum Craine 21/55 in fifth place.
After a short break the second round got under way with the conditions no better than the first round. Andre Visnjov finished in second place in C class with 32/92 with Mike Whitehead taking the honours in C class with 34/99. John Moore was the sole shooter in B class with the second best score of the day with 46/133 and also best round of the day a 25/72 straight in his second round. Calum Craine finished in third place in A class with 44/122 with Phil Ward taking second place with 442/124 but top of the class with 48/138 was Steven Craine.
The third round of the Utopia Hair Salon Winter Series English skeet league was held at Meary Veg Santon in very windy but dry conditions.
The leader after the first round was Paul Mihailovits who somehow hit a 25 straight, in second place on 21 were Stan Cross and Jeff Corkill followed by C class shooter Giulio Fabrizio on 20. The leading B class shooters were Peter Kelly and David Morgan on 19.
With the wind getting even stronger for the second round we had the following results. In C class Brian Kelly finished in second place with 26 points with Giulio Fabrizio taking first place with 41 points. Mark Hepworth finished in third place in B class with 32 points but we had a tie for first place between Peter Kelly and junior Zac Bellhouse on 36 points. In A class Jeff Corkill finished in third place on 40 points with Stan Cross taking second place with 42 points but in first place and high gun on the day was Paul Mihailovits with 47 points.
Thirty-three competitors from all corners of the Nation flocked to the Isle of Man Clay Pigeon Shooting Club on Sunday 14 January for the third round of our winter Pro Sporting series, generously sponsored by Brian Faragher. Conditions were generally good, though a chilling northerly wind and intermittent face-on sunshine made life interesting at times for six squads shooting fifty targets across two layouts.
Skeet supremo Roman Sammer hit the ground running on the first layout, leading C class with a healthy 19 targets despatched, while Brian Faragher positioned himself atop B class with 21. New shooters Leslie Devlin and Bob Wright finished their first competitive layout with a very respectable score of 12 points each, but the runaway leader at the end of the first round was A class Paul Mihailovits with the day’s only straight 25.
The second layout was shot from the corner of the overflow car park across our dedicated beginner’s area using traps located on the right-hand skeet range, adding an interesting dimension to some long targets and allowing for comfortable spectating with tea and hot baps from within the clubhouse. It quickly became apparent that although occasional sunshine was no longer an issue, the fast edge-on targets and biting wind would more than make up for any challenges caused by light.
Marty Kneen was the only competitor to achieve full marks in the singles and the report pairs, dropping just three of his instants to finish stand #2 on 22 points, level pegging with Corina Moffatt and two points ahead of Paul Mihailovits and John Moore, while Nigel Moffatt and Mark Barnett completed stand two with 19 targets behind them.
The leading class C competitor at the end of a long and enjoyable day’s shooting was Roman Sammer with 31 points, closely followed by Alan Wright with 30 and Mark Hepworth with 29. Brian Faragher dominated B class on 38 ahead of Ben Stembridge on 37 and Liam Kirkpatrick on 34. Hot competition in A class found Dave Corlett and Micheal Cross joint third with 42 and Marty Kneen in second with 43, but in the end it was Mihailovits’ momentum which saw him romp home on a shapely 45 – well done Paul!

The leader after the first round was Mr Consistency Phil Ward with 69 points in second place on 67 was Steven Craine with junior Zac Bellhouse shooting his first DTL league shoot in third place on 64. John Moore was the leading B class shooter with Rob Marshall leading C class on 59.
After a short break the second round got under way and again Phil Ward was consistent, repeating his first round score of 69 to take highgun and first in A class with 138 points in second place in A class was Steven Craine with 134 points with junior Zac Bellhouse third on 129. John Moore was first in B class on 122 with Jack Clague taking second place on 120 and making up the top three in B was Brian Faragher on 101. The leading C class shooter was Mike Whitehead on 117 one point ahead of Rob Marshall in second place on 116 with Brian Kelly third on 110.
The IOM Clay Pigeon Shooting Club held their annual Christmas shoot kindly sponsored by Top Spec Fencing at Meary Veg Santon with 34 competitors taking part in all categories in cold, wet but at times sunny conditions.
The leader of the main event at the half way stage was Steven Craine with a well shot 24, in equal second place were B class shooter Jack Clague and C class shooter Ted Kermeen on 22, followed by Mike Walker in fourth place on 21 and making up the top six were Arran Wade and Rob Corlett on 20. In the unclassified section the leaders were Michael Cross and Calum Craine on 18.
After a short break the second round got under way and in the unclassified section Michael Cross repeated his first round score on 18 to win the section, in second place on 33 was Mark Hepworth, but we had a five way tie for third place so count back was used which saw Andre Visjhov take third place with Zac Bellhouse in fourth place, Giulio Fabrizio was fifth, Stan Skinner sixth and Calum Craine seventh.
In Class C Mike Whitehead finished in third place on 34 with Will Rand taking second place on 36 but winning C class with 38 hits was Ted Kermeen. Brian Faragher was third in B class on 39 with Dave Corlett taking second place with 43 kills but winning B class with 44 kills was Jack Clague. In A class junior Arran Wade was third on count back from Rob Corlett in second place, both scoring 42 kills each but winning A Class with 43 kills was first round leader Steven Craine but high gun on the day was Mike Walker who showed every body how to do it by hitting a straight in his second round to win the John Moore Highgun cup with 46 kills.
In the handicap section for the George Costain Handicap cup the winner was Mike Whitehead with 167 points. The last of the trophies to be won was the best non members cup or better know as the ‘Archie Cup’ and the winner was Cesar Kermode who received a years free membership to the club.
