Foggy Third Summer Leagues

DTL League, Round Three

The third round of the Tower Insurance DTL league was held at Meary Veg Santon in dry but misty conditions.

The leader after the first round were Mark Riley and junior Arran Wade with 72 points, in third place on 69 was Mike Walker. The leading B class shooter was Dave Corlett on 59 with Jeff Corkill leading C class on 57.

At the end of the second round newcomer Mike Whitehead finished in third place in C class on 92 with Brian Kelly taking second place with 96 points but winning C class with 115 points was Jeff Corkill. Rob Marshall was third in B class on 102 with George Davies taking second place on 115 but in first place on 119 was Dave Corlett. Mike Walker was third in A on 131 with Mark Riley taking second place on 136 but winning A class with 141 was junior Arran Wade.

Olympic Skeet League, Round Three

In the afternoon the third round of the Manx Petroleum’s Olympic skeet league was held and the winner was James Bradley with 41 points in second place on 40 was Giulio Fabrizio with Jeff Corkill third on 34. The Cannell Crossing cup was also up for grabs and James Bradley was the winner.

ABT League, Round Three

The third round of the Sadler Agricultural Supplies ABT league was also held which had the J D Faulkner Highgun and the Kelly handicap cups up for grabs.

Mark Riley lead the way after the first round with a 25 straight, Steven Craine would have tied for the lead but he missed his last target to be in equal second place with Arran Wade on 24.

After the second round we had Alan Wade in third place overall on 45 mainly thanks to a straight in his second round but we had a tie for first place between Mark Riley and Steven Craine on 47 so a shoot off was required to see who lifted the J D Faulkner Cup and in the shoot off the bragging rights went to Steven Craine who hit 22 to Marks 20. The winner of the Kelly handicap cup was junior Arran Wade with 53 points.

Cross Shines through Fog

Fabrizio Summer All-Round

The annual Fabrizio All Round Championship and kindly sponsored by Giulio Fabrizio was held at Meary Veg Santon in extremely misty conditions.

The leader after the first round which was English skeet was Michael Cross with a perfect 25/75 straight, in second place on 69 points was John Moore and Jeff Corkill followed by Mark Riley, James Bradley and Stan Cross on 66.

The next discipline was DTL and we had  a new leader in Mark Riley with 137 points with Michael Cross in second place on 135 followed by John Moore on 133. Michael Cross was in the lead again after the ABT section on 204 with Mark Riley and Jeff Corkill now in equal second place  on 197 followed by John Moore on 190. The next discipline to be shot was Olympic skeet and Michael Cross increased his lead scoring 66 for a running total of 270 ,19 ahead of Jeff Corkill and James Bradley in equal second place on 251 with James hitting a straight in this discipline, Mark Riley was next on 248 followed by John Moore on 241. The last discipline was Pro Sporting and  Nicky Barnett finished strongly to take second place in C class with 186 points with Mark Hepworth taking C class with 203. Jeff Corkill finished in second place in B class on 278 with Stan Cross taking B class with 293. In A class James Bradley was second on 293 with Mark Riley taking A class with 308 but the top gun on the day went to Michael Cross who shot consistently all day to take the Championship by 31 points with a final total of 339 – well done Michael.

Sunny Start to Second Rounds

DTL League, Round 2

The second round of the Tower Insurance DTL League was held at Meary Veg, Santon with 17 competitors taking part in dry cool conditions which also had the IOM Goats high gun cup and the Jack Harrison Handicap cups up for grabs.

The leader after the first round was junior Arran Wade who only dropped one target for 72 points, in second place on 68 was Phil Ward with John Moore third on 67. The leading B class shooter was George Davies on 61 with Jack Clague the leading C class shooter on 60.

At the end of the second round Mike Thomson finished in third place in C class with 73 points with Mark Barnett taking second place on 108 but winning C class with 117 points was Jack Clague. Rob Marshall was third in B class on 88 with Brian Faragher taking second place on 122 but winning B class with 128 points was George Davies. In A class Steven Craine finished in third place on 129 with John Moore taking second place on 131 but top of the class with 142 point and hitting the only straight of the day was Phil Ward who also won the IOM Goats Highgun Cup.

We had to have a shoot off for the Jack Harrison Handicap cup between George Davies and Brian Faragher which George won handsomely.

Olympic Skeet League, Round 2

In the afternoon the second round of the Manx Petroleum’s Olympic skeet league was held with a healthy turn out of 10 competitors taking part.

The leader after the first round was Stan Cross on 20 Dave Clague, James Bradley and Ted Davis all tying for second place on 18. At the end of the second round we had a tie for third place between Ted Davis and James Bradley on 36 and we also had a tie for first place between Stan Cross and Dave Clague on 38. With more than six shooters taking part a handicap prize was awarded and the winner was Peter Fabrizio with 52 points.

ABT League, Round 2

Just to round the day off the second round of the Sadler Agricultural Supplies ABT league was held.

We had a three way tie for first place after the first round between Rob Corlett, Alan Wade and son Arran on 20. After the second round Mike Walker and Arran Wade were in equal second place with 37 points but winning with 40 points was Alan Wade. The handicap winner was Rob Corlett with 47 points.

Summer Starts with DTL

DTL League, Round 1

The first round of the Tower Insurance Summer DTL League was held at Meary Veg, Santon, with fifteen competitors taking part in calm dry conditions.

The leader after the first round B class shooter Rob Marshall who hit 24 targets for 71 points, in second place on 69 were A shooters John Moore and Mark Riley with the leading C class shooter being Jack Clague on 63.

At the end of the second round Mike Thompson finished in third place in C class on 57 with Brian Kelly taking second place on 65 but winning C class by a country mile was Jack Clague with 124 points. Newly promoted Mark Sweetman finished in third place in B class with 102 points with George Davies in second place on 111 and taking B class with 120 was first round leader Rob Marshall. In A class Arran Wade was third on 125 with Mark Riley taking second place with 129 and the winner was Alan wade on 136.

In the afternoon the first round of the Manx Petroleum’s Olympic Skeet League was held and the winner was James Bradley with 38 points with Michael Cross in second place on 33  with Ted Davis in third place on 31 .The handicap winner was Giulio Fabrizio with 41 points.

ABT League, Round 1

The first round of the Sadler Agricultural Supplies ABT League was also held and the winner was Alan Wade with 44 points with Stan Skinner in second place on 43 followed by Arran Wade and Mark Riley in equal third place on 41. The handicap winner was Peter Kelly with 46 points.

Triple Trap Delight for Craine

Trap Medley

The Meary Veg Trap Medley kindly sponsored by building contractors Creer & Kelly Ltd was held at Meary Veg, Santon in near perfect conditions. The format of the competition is 30 DTL, 30 ABT and 30 Double Rise.

The leader after the DTL section was Mike Walker with 89 points with Rob Corlett in second place on 87 followed by Phil Ward in third place on 86, Steven Craine was fourth on 85 with Peter Kelly in fifth place on 82 and making up the top six were John Moore and Dave Corlett on 80.

The next round was ABT and Stan Skinner was the new leader only missing one target for a running total of 163, in second place on 161 was Mike Walker with Steven Craine and Peter Kelly in equal third place on 160. In fifth place on 158 was Phil ward with Rob Corlett making up the top six on 156.

Double rise was the last discipline which proved to be a game changer for some; John Moore finished in sixth place on 218, fifth place went to Peter Kelly on 220 with Stan Skinner who was the leader after the ABT finishing in fourth place  on 223. Third place went to Rob Corlett on 228 with his dad David taking the runner up spot on 230 but the winner with 238 points was Steven Craine – well done Stevie!
